It all begAN with an idea.

Who doesn’t love a good sports comedy? Like CaddyshackHappy Gilmore, and DodgeballIn a Pickle brings together a cast of eccentric characters and hilarious rivalries in the world of sports. While we’ve both been lifelong competitors in various sports, we were only introduced to Pickleball a couple of years ago—right around the time it started exploding in popularity! What we found wasn’t just a way to stay physically active and mentally engaged but a wonderfully inclusive community that spans generations and cultures. Sure, there’s a competitive edge to Pickleball, but its charm lies in its ability to bring people together.

At the same time, Pickleball can be perplexing to outsiders. It’s simple enough to seem like a child’s game yet incredibly rewarding for players at the professional level. This simplicity—and the increasing demand for courts—has sparked real-life tensions between tennis clubs and Pickleball players, making it the perfect setting for our story.

Against this backdrop, In a Pickle tells a classic comedy story—an underdog tale with a buddy-movie feel, a sprinkle of rom-com, and a heartwarming redemption arc. It’s a battle of Pickleball vs. Tennis, a hilarious rivalry that uses sport as the vehicle to explore ego, community, and embracing change.

But In a Pickle isn’t just about the game. It’s about the colorful, offbeat characters who play it—like Nick’s quirky Misfits, a team reminiscent of the offbeat charm in Caddyshack or Dodgeball. We wanted to capture the spirit of Pickleball, a sport that thrives on diversity and inclusivity, and celebrate the humor and heart behind its rapid rise.
